Long Time Baker is a family-owned business founded by Sophia and Harry Alexander, specialising in gluten-free and vegan bars and slices that taste like they have been perfected over decades. Because they have been.
You could say that Long Time Baker's story began when Sophia and Harry entered the hospitality business 40 years ago.
However, it wasn’t until 2011 at their café, Alexanders on the Park in Liverpool St, Sydney that it really kicked off. Becoming aware of an increasing rate of gluten intolerance among friends and fed up with the lack of healthy options offered by wholesale bakeries, Sophia started to create the artisanal bars and slices they had been looking for, selling them directly to their cafe customers under the trading name Alexanders Plate.
Inspired by ancient Greek ingredients found on the Ionian island where Sophia’s family originates, they created slices that would not just pick you up and then unceremoniously plunk you down, but rather sustain you throughout the whole day. The Alexanders Plate slices proved so successful that in 2014 they formed Munja Bakehouse. Over the next decade Sophia added more innovative recipes to the original favourites FNG, Pistachio and Coconut, Choc Macadamia Fudge Brownie, et al., while Harry ran the business.
Staying true to themselves and their vision of creating artisanal, quality products, Sophia and Harry moved onto their newest business venture, Long Time Baker, in 2024. Sophia and Harry now bake under licence at Mama Kaz, the renowned baker of banana bread and muffins, where they are back producing their known, loved and improved slices while continuing to create healthy, new, innovative artisanal dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan slices.
